The Consular Section of the High Commission provides many services for the Maldivians including helping to renew the passports, ID Cards, assist in obtaining visas for foreign countries, whose diplomatic missions accredited to Maldives are based in Sri Lanka and verify documents. Further we provide important information about Sri Lanka to those Maldivians who travel to Sri Lanka and run a registration programme for those who visit Sri Lanka and wishes to do so. If a Maldivian becomes ill, dies, gets arrested or is a victim of a serious crime we are there to offer advice and assistance.

Consular staff cannot use their position to influence unduly or bypass local laws or processes. While consular staff can sometimes use their knowledge and understanding of the local environment to facilitate support, they must work within the legal and administrative constraints applying in their host country.

In carrying out duties, our staffs are bound by rules governing consular work.
